Tantra Tip of the Day – Refections after the Storm

It has been an interesting couple of weeks for me. Doing my taxes and looking at my finances triggered some fear about the future. I found myself stuck in my head trying to figure it out and suffering arose. As I sat with the fears it became clear I had to let go of the story and look at what was creating the suffering. Being stuck in past and future was causing of my suffering.

It is easy so beat yourself up when you judge your past choices based on today’s knowledge. “If only…this. If only…that.” Then the future feels like a minefield of “What ifs….”

“Leaping into the void” took me out of the story. “Being still” took me out of past and future. “Facing into the wind of my suffering” helped me to open to trusting the Now. After a week of being in the not knowing without resistance, I am in a completely different space. I have relaxed and surrendered. I am at peace. My creative juices are starting to flow again. I am excited about the unfolding of my life.

The future is still a mystery. I no longer “need to know what is going to happen” to feel safe. My faith in Source as an abundant field of love is restored. I relax, breathe and appreciate the moment. I see the beauty and abundance all around me. I am open to receiving miracles in my life. I am ready for the opportunities and challenges the Universe is offering me so I can give my gifts and grow. I have learn to appreciate fear is a doorway to peace.

Try this, the next time you find yourself stuck, afraid or contracted, see if you can let go of the story about it. Let go of past and future. Drop into the Now and ask yourself what is the deeper Truth? Be still and allow yourself to open and discover the gift hidden in whatever appears to be creating your suffering. Open and receive the gift and appreciate the opportunity to grow.

Tantra Tip of the Day – Conscious Breathing

An important aspect of Tantra is the practice of presence. A gentle way to begin being more present is to allow yourself to notice your breath several times a day. Instead of “doing” a formal practice, you just become aware of the breath, as it is, for 10-20 seconds and then go back to your usual state of awareness.

Let this awareness of your breath to happen several times a day. Begin by noticing it 4 times a day and then gradually increase it to 4 times an hour. As you become aware of the breath you will notice it naturally becomes more calm and deep. This practice comes from Danial Odier’s, Desire the Tantric Path to Awakening. In it he recommends several types of short practices, he calls micro-practices. He suggests they are a natural way to begin bringing Tantra into daily life, rather than trying to force a longer practice, such as a prolonged sitting mediation. I have found that these micro-practices are very helpful in bringing increased awareness into every aspect of my life.

Tantra Tip of the Day- Beauty in Unexpected Places

Take some time today to discover beauty in unexpected places. Shift your perspective from small to vast. Imagine looking at something through the eyes of an ant, a dog, a bird, a baby, a mountain, a visitor from another galaxy, or the moon. Notice how a shift in your perception can change your relationship to whether you evaluate something as ugly, neutral or beautiful. What is beauty? Play with your perception. How much beauty is there around you that you miss, because you are too busy thinking and doing to see it?

Tantra Tip of the Day-Being Present

What does it mean to be present? Being present is more than paying attention to what is happening in this world of form. Being present is being aware of the stillness in which everything arises. There is a luminous quality to this awareness. It is always present, just underneath the surface of whatever is occurring. Try this several times today – stop, be still, become present, and notice the spacious awareness in which everything arises. How does this color the rest of your day?

Presence = Better Demos and Deeper Experiences

Last weekend while teaching my Awakening the Ecstatic Body  workshop I noticed  the participants were consistently move deeper into each process. They appeared more open and vulnerable with each other. Even the students who had been in my classes before, noticed a qualitative difference and commented on it. As the weekend progressed, I began to ask what I was doing differently than in the past. As I reflected on this, what stood out to me was that I had changed the demos. In the past, I would often explain what I was doing as I was giving the demonstration. This kept me a bit detached from the process and I wasn’t as open or vulnerable as I could be. There were several reasons for this, which I won’t go into right now.

I have a new assistant, Jim Miller, who is my friend and a Sky Dancer. It is a pleasure working with a man who adds a depth and power to the demos. Jim suggested it would more effective to do the demo without interruption and do  explain the process afterwards. I immediately noticed a difference in the quality of my presence after each demo. I allowed myself to be fully in the experience instead of being half participant and half teacher. I also saw that people were deeply touched by the vulnerability they felt watching us being so open-hearted. This in turn opened them up and allowed them to go for it when they were in the process. Thank you Jim!
