Tantra Tip of the Day- Open to Desire

I am reading a great book called Open to Desire -Embracing a Lust for Life, Insights from Buddhism and Psychotherapy by Mark Epstein MD. In it he talks about how desire can be used to Awaken to our Divine nature. In one chapter he mentions how women often have trouble voicing their desires. Reading that helped me to looked at my desire to recieve help from others which I seldom verbalize. I highly recommend reading this book and I thank my daughter-in-law Tara for showing it to me.

I have been sick for several weeks and I am finally beginning to feel better. The lesson I have learned is that by letting go of control and surrending I was finally able to ask for and receive help I desired. I saw how I am much more comfortable giving than receiving. I want to thank my son, Elijah for taking care of me when I went to see him. He helped me to realize how much I wanted someone to be there for me. Tara thanks for your concern and telling Eli I was sicker than I let on.

Tantra Tip of the Day – Desire: Fuel for Transformation

Desires arise naturally, from the moment your eyes open in the morning they move through you.
“I want to take a  bubble bath with you.”
“I need a cup of coffee.”
Desire is part of being human, to deny it, is to deny your humanity.

One of the unique aspects of Tantra is that desire is seen as fuel for awakening, instead of as a sin or something to be avoided. However, attachment to desire is recognized as a trap. When you desire something and then believe you can’t be happy without it then suffering is created. If you can allow desire to be as it is and dance with it, noticing when attachment arises and then let go, desire becomes an ally that supports you in being present.

Today let desire be your ally. What does desire feel like in your body? What happens when you make your desires conscious? Watch out for disappointment. See if you can let go of attachment to getting your desires met. When you let go what do you discover? Is there freedom in letting go?

Tantra Tip of the Day-Desire and Choice

Desires create choices and these choices accumulate and create the life you are living today. Notice what desires arise today. Are your desires serving the Truth of who you are? What is the deeper desire? Is this True? Repeat these questions a few times and see what you discover.
