Tantra Tip of the Day – Sexual Energy, Fuel for Awakening

Original Art by Paul Heussenstamm, www.Mandalas.com

Tantra is unique from most spiritual practices is that it embraces sex as a path to the Divine. It sees the human body as a Temple. The body experiences birth, death, hunger, thirst, pain and pleasure. It is a laboratory for consciousness to play and explore the material world. Tantra uses the body’s sexual energy to expand awareness.

Tantric practices teach you how to move your sexual energy from the root, up to the heart center and then up to the crown, expanding conscious awareness as it moves into the upper chakras. Sexual energy is the rocket fuel that takes you beyond Earth’s gravitational field and into mystical realms. It accelerates the process of discovering that you are not our thoughts, bodies, feelings or beliefs. You are the Divine celebrating in human form, enjoying its ability to experience pleasure, bliss and Unity Consciousness.

In SkyDancing Tantra we use the 3 keys to open the “Inner Flute” and energize the Chakras. They are: breath, movement and sound. Try this:
1) Stand with your knees hip width apart and slightly bent.
2) Breathe through your mouth and into the belly, allowing it to expand.
3) Increase the energy by breathing in as if you are sipping through straw.
4) Allow your pelvis to rotate freely, keeping the knees bent. As you inhale rock the hips back, creating an arch in the back. As you exhale, tuck the tail bone under, flattening the back.
5) Add the PC pump. As you inhale squeeze the pelvic floor muscles pulling them upwards and as you exhale let them relax.
6) Put all the steps together. As you inhale imagine you are breathing the energy up from your root to your heart. Practice this until you feel the energy pulsing from your root to your heart. You can play with speeding up and slowing down your respiratory rate.
7) Once you have mastered connecting root and heart move the energy to the crown. Practice until you can feel the energy flowing from your root to your crown. See yourself as a rainbow bridge of light connecting Earth and Sky.
8) Do this practice prior to making love and incorporate it into your love making.

Tantra Tip of the Day – The Art of Awakening

Tantra is the path of awakening and recognizing your true nature as conscious Awareness. Here are 4 steps to help you awaken:

1) Recognize that you living in a dream and choose to wake up.

2) Activate the Witness – watch the dream unfold and recognize you are more than the dream and the dreamer.

3) Discover you are Awareness, the spaciousness consciousness in which everything arises, beyond time, space and form.

4) Practice both/and consciousness; you are both a person, living out your unique life experiences and eternal Awareness.

As you practice these steps notice what arises. How easy is it for you to recognize you are dreaming? When do you get lost in the dream? Are you able to activate the Witness in times of drama? Are you able to move beyond identification with the self and experience the Self, as Awareness?

Emptiness Blooms in the Heart- A Weekend with Gangaji, Jan. 10-11

Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, I read Gangaji’s book The Diamond in Your Pocket: discovering your true radiance. This book is a gold mine of wisdom. I found answers to questions I have been curious about for years. She speaks with such clarity about emptiness, which is not so easy to do. As I read the words, I began to notice a real shift in my consciousness. My ego seemed to be dissolving. (It is an interesting thing to watch, this letting go of me as a separate being.) I have had many experiences over the years of entering ecstatic states of bliss, oneness, unity consciousness and they were marvelous, but as Gangaji points out- they end. This process is different. I am not in an ecstatic state. Instead of an “I” being aware, there is awareness of Awareness, that which never changes. This is a shift into a new way of being.

After Christmas I went online to see if she had any workshops in the near future and, to my joy, she was scheduled in San Diego Jan.10-11. I signed up immediately. My time with her was delightful. Her presence has a translucent quality and I could feel the Truth flow from her as a gentle, penetrating light. On Saturday afternoon, as we meditated with her, I felt a bouquet of roses, the color of emptiness, blossom and open my heart. This was so visceral I could almost smell the love and freedom as they filled the room. The path of self- inquiry she shares is so direct and powerful. Awareness is so clear and pure. I see now that thoughts, feelings, and desires will continue to come and go and yet this Awareness is always here in each moment.

This morning, I awoke at 4 a.m. and there were negative thoughts, fears that I am not being productive enough, to-dos, and concerns about the future. (There has been a noticeable desire to be in the flow and not to do for the past several weeks.) I lay in bed and watched the thoughts. I stayed aware and still the thoughts came and went. My mind remained busy until about 6:30, when I dozed off. I got up at 7:30 a.m. and watched a Gangaji DVD. It helped to hear her speak of Awareness and the traps the mind sets. Awareness settled in again. What I am learning is to stay present and watch the mind to see the story and not get caught in it, to feel the emotions but not become them, allowing whatever is arising to be as it is- conscious of it all and yet knowing it is not me. It is a new way of being and seeing.

Questions arise, lots of questions and, as Gangaji so beautifully suggested, there is nothing to expect and who is there to expect it anyhow?” So I relax, stay present and allow Truth to be revealed. https://www.gangaji.org/

“Life is the Guru kissing, slapping, confirming, denying. What does it mean to be true to who you are?” Gangaji

Tantra is Our Natural State of Awareness

Recently, I did a coaching session with someone new to Tantra. I was reminded that many people have the idea that Tantra is a philosophy or something you practice to have better sex or become more spiritual. I was under this impression myself at one time. What I know now and what I stress to my students, is that Tantra is not something we learn, it is simply, a remembering our true nature. Our true nature is the awareness that everything is woven together, connected, one field of consciousness and we are not separate from this consciousness, we are it.

Tantra is an awareness that I am one with all that is. No matter that my thoughts want to convince me that I am alone and separate. I know this is an illusion. This is why I call my website Tantra For Awakening because each moment is an opportunity to awaken to the awareness that we are consciousness, in form, becoming aware of our true nature, not these separate egos, who think they are here to prove something.

In my SkyDancing Tantra workshops and coaching sessions I teach tools that allow you to easily tap into this awareness and make it apart of your daily life. Then Tantra is not a doing but a being. You are awareness living life, apparently separate and always connected. You are consciousness in form, having a human adventure. Living in this way is liberating and fun.
