Her poetry are some of the earliest compositions in the Kashmiri language. She is the Kashmiri equivalent of Germany’s Hildegard of Bingen.

Lalla married at age twelve and moved into her husband’s family home. She was mistreated by her mother-in-law and her husband. In her early 20s, she left left her marriage and became a disciple of a respected saint in the Kashmir Shaivism tradition of tantra. She dedicated her life to Lord Shiva. Lalla was called to wander from village to village, nearly naked, and singing songs of rapture. Her short, simple, and direct songs spoke to common people. Her words open a window to the soul and allow Truth to be seen.

Honoring the Beloved
Saturday, April 2, 2011 7-9 pm
Hosted by ChocolaTree Organic Eatery
& Marketplace ~ in the Garden
1595 West Hwy 89A Sedona, AZ 86336 – (928) 282-2997

April is National Poetry month. In honor of it I was inspired to organize my first poetry event. I invited people to come and share their poems about love, pleasure and bliss. Poetry has the ability to impact people by touching their heart and soul. My desire was to create an intimate evening of ecstatic and erotic poetry where people could open, connect and celebrate.

Over 35 people attended and nine people shared their original poems about human love, spiritual love or the joys of sex. I was deeply touched by all the poetry I heard. Each poet shared something deep, unique and heartfelt. Some honored the Earth, others the complications and joys of love, the depth of spiritual awakening and a few the humor of being alive. It was powerful for me to read my own poems to the crowd and feel just how intimate it is to reveal your heart’s longings and intimate moments of conscious connection. This event was also an opportunity to share with locals information about the upcoming 10th Anniversary Conference on Sexuality and Consciousness. Next time I hope to video the event and have it on YouTube. I also will take pictures next time as well.

The evening ended with a drawing for a Free Pass to the 10th Anniversary Conference on Sexuality and Consciousness, a $450 value. Learn more http://schooloftemplearts.org/2011sedonaconferenceofsexualityandconsciousness

I hope to offer this event again please contact me at 928-282-5483 or

My friend Zannie sent me this comment and below is my response. Crystal, great quote from a master of love. How does this relate to your personal experiences with seeking love/removing barriers to the same? I’d love to know…! xo, Zannie

Zannie,
My experience is that everyday is an opportunity to see where I close. When I am aware, I allow myself to open in that moment, to love. The past nine years have been a lesson in letting go of what I think love is supposed to look and feel like. I have come closer and closer to recognizing I am love in form and so is everything and everyone around me. This is easiest with my grandchildren, family and friends. It is more challenging with people who are creating pain and suffering for others, especially, people in power who choose war over peace and pollution over sustainability.

What is your experience?

Open up heart strings,
Remember the way joy sings.

Touching You

Touching you, I open.
No words spoken.
Breathing together,
I see God in your eyes.

Flesh against flesh,
Beneath cool sheets,
Subtle waves flowing.
Dreams carry me a way.

Cool lips entice me back,
Your breath on my face,
Warm, sweet as cherries,
I inhale you into my heart.

There are no words for love.
Moments of no separation,
Melting together beyond form,
On a sea of emptiness we ride.

You do not have to be good
You do not need to walk on your knees, for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only need to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.

This poem speaks to how much we all want to belong, to be connected with the life around us. Today, “let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.” What kind of animal are you? How does this animal body give and receive love? Feel into your relationship to loneliness and despair. Have compassion for your own suffering and the suffering of others. See if you can connect to the “family of things” that you are a part of, recognize you are never alone. You are life as well.
